Animals of all types need high quality light to maintain healthy issues.  By removing them from the "Natural" environment where they receive sunlight, we jeopardize their health and temperament.  Caged birds much like most mammals require the correct type of light which includes some "UV" characteristics.  Full Spectrum light sources are definitely a benefit not only to the bird but also the owners as it allows for better color rendition when viewing.  Reptiles require a whole different spectrum of light primarily the UV characteristics and heat properties of the light sources.  The type, intensity, and duration of  exposure of light vary from animal to animal.  So in order to provide the best environment for your pet, the correct light source needs to be utilized.
